A Guide to Asian Handicap Betting

First thing to know about Asian handicap is, the tie result is not available. The outcome probability is about 22%,  in the standard 1X2 betting. In Asian Handicap, players have two betting options, either on home or away. There chances, therefore, are 50-50.

Asian handicap tips

The betting guide below will be demonstrated according to the AH form.

AH markets are to grant the less appreciated team, or the underdog, an advantage before the game starts. In football, however, even one goal can change the whole result, both for the teams and the bettors.

The speciic rules shall be explained below.

A Guide to Asian Handicap Betting

Asian handicap 0.0

With the Asian Handicap 0.0, the matches begins with the score of 0-0. Neither teams receive any advantage. The tie option is removed, and the rules are actually simple. Let’s take a look at the example below:

AC Milan vs Liverpool AH – 0.0

Asian handicap odds: Home – 1.90, Away – 1.95

Given that the players bets $100 on AC Milan to win 0.0 AH at 1.90 bet market. The player can only win the money if AC Milan wins the game.

More specifically:

– If Milan wins, the player will have $100 × 1.90 = $190. The final profit is $190 – 100 = $90.

– If the game is a tie. The player has his $100 back, no win or lose.

– If Milan loses, the player’ll lose his bet, too.

The pattern is same if players bet on Liverpool.

Asian handicap 0.25

In the Asian Handicap 0.25 option, the match begins with a score of 0 – 0.25 (1/4 goal handicaps). It means the underdog has already “scored” 0.25 goal before the match starts.

This type of bet is a bit more complex from half AH. Players can either win, win half, lose, or lose half the bet. Let’s look at the example below.

Man City vs Arsenal AH – 0:1/4

Home Odds – 2.00, Away Odds – 1.90

a, Given that the player bets $100 on Man City to win -1/4 AH. So Man City needs to win the game in order for the bettor to win the money.

More specifically:

– If Man City wins, the player wins $100 × 2.00 = $200. The final profit is $200 – $100 = $100.

– If the game is a tie, the player loses half his bet ($50).

– If Arsenal wins, the player loses all of his bet.

b, Given that the player bets $100 on Arsenal to win +1/4 AH. So Arsenal needs to win the game in order for the bettor to win the money.

– If Arsenal wins, the player wins $100 × 1.90 = $190. The final profit is $190 – $100 = $90 profit.

– If the game is a tie, the players gets half of their bet ($50) back and win the other half ($50) at 1.90. Therefore, it turns out the player wins $50 (back) + $95 ($50 × 1.90) = $145. The finial profit is $145 – $100 = $45.

Asian handicap 0.5

In the Asian Handicap 0.25 option, the match begins with a score of 0 – 0.5 (1/2 goal handicap). It means the underdog has already “scored” a half goal before the match starts. In this bet, therefore, the player can only either win or lose the money. Let’s look at the example given below:

Chelsea vs Roma AH – 0:1/2

Home Odds – 1.85, Away Odds – 2.00

The player bets $100 on Chelsea to win -1/2 AH. The minus (-) is to indicate the team with the advantage by Asian Handicap (AH). Chelsea needs to win the match in order for the bettor to win the money. Any other results will cause the bettor to lose his money.

– If Chelsea wins, the player wins $100 × 1.85 = $185. The final profit is $185 – $100 = $85.

– If the game is a tie or Roma wins, the player loses all of his bet money.

* The player bets $100 on Roma to win +1/2 AH. The plus (+) is to indicate the team with the advantage by AH. Roma needs to win or draw the match in order for the bettor to win the money.

– If one of those two cases happens, the player wins $100 × 2.00 = $200. The final profit is $200 – $100 = $100.

– If Chelsea wins, the player loses all of his money.

– In AH betting, Chelsea wins and Chelsea -1/2 are seen the same.

Asian handicap 0.75

In the Asian Handicap 0.75, On these terms, the match begins with a score of 0 – 0.75 (meaning 3/4 goal handicap). It means the underdog has already “scored” three quarters goal before the match starts. Compared to the AH 0.25, it is slightly different. Let’s take a look at the example below:

Porto vs Dortmund AH – 3/4:0

Home Odds – 1.90, Away Odds – 1.90

The player bets $100 on Porto to win +3/4 AH. (In this case, the home team Porto is the underdog, so it’s given the advantage of the AH). Porto needs to win or tie the game in order for the bettor to win the money.

– If Porto wins or draws, the player wins $100 × 1.90 = $190. The final profit is $190 – $100 = $90.

– If Dortmund wins by 1 goal difference (the total score is 0-1, 1-2, or 2-3), the player loses half his bet $50) and takes the other half ($50) back.

– If Dortmund wins by 2 or more goals difference (the total score is 0-2, 1-3, or 0-3), the player loses all of his bet.

The player bets $100 on Dortmund to win -3/4 AH. Dortmund needs to win by 2 or more goals difference for the bettor to win the money.

– If Dortmund wins the game by 2 or more goals difference, the players wins $100 × 1.90 = $190. The final profit is $190 – $100 = $90.

– If Dortmund wins by 1 goal difference (the total score is 0-1, 1-2, or 2-3), the player wins half his bet ($50) back and win the other half ($50 × 1.90). Totally, he wins $50 (back) + 95 ($50 × 1.90) = $145. The final profit is $145 – $100 = $45.

– If Dortmund draws or loses, the player loses all of his bet.

Asian Handicap -1

In the Asian Handicap -1 option, the underdog team has already “scored” 1 goal before the game starts. Let’s take a look at the example below:

Man United vs West Ham AH – 0:1

Home Odds – 1.80, Away Odds – 2.05

The player bets $100 on Man United  -1 AH. Man United needs to win by 2 or more goals difference (the total score is 2-0, 3-0, or 3-1) for the bettor to win the money.

– If Man United wins by 2 or more goals difference, the player wins $100 × 1.80 = $180. The final profit is $180 – $100 = $80.

– If Man United wins by 1 goal difference (1-0, 2-1, 3-2..), the player gets his money back. He either wins or loses.

– If Man United draws or loses, the player loses all of his bet money.

The player bets $100 on West Ham to win +1 AH. West Ham needs to win or draw in order for the bettor to win the money.

– If West Ham wins or draws, the player wins $100 × 2.05 = $205. The final profit  is $205-$100 = $105.

– If West Ham loses by 1 goal difference (1-0, 2-1, 3-2), the player gets his money back. He neither wins or loses. .

– If West Ham loses by 2 or more goals difference, the player loses all of his bet.

Alternative Asian handicap markets

Actually, this is not something strange or confusing. It’s just the bookmakers list the options to their software.

For instance, Bet365 releases the standard AH option which  depends on the odds. All other AH options will be listed in a specific section calling ‘Alternative AH’. Let’s take a look at the example below:

Lazio vs Watford. The usual AH option is -0.5 @1.85 for Lazio, +0.5 @2.05 for Watford.

This will be listed in the AH section as the main AH offer.

Players can also find all other AH options under ‘Alternative AH’ section (-0.75, -1, -1.25, -1.5 etc.).

Recommendation

Rather than standard betting, Asian Handicap (AH) is firmly recommended in football. The rules of betting may seem confusing at first. But the more it’s played, the easier it’ll become.
